Royal Purple Raceway, Baytown, TX
Watching drag races could get monotonous and boring, but that is not to say that there aren't any exciting occurrences. For sure, there are - like this one Civic that crashed right after passing the finish line, and clocking in a 9.0 second at 158 mph run. Unfortunately, we missed that.
The parking lot of the racing complex was reserved for a few events, and a car show. The very first car that caught my attention was this pristine 1976 Toyota Celica 2200 GT (RA24). It was immaculately clean and properly restored, or pampered. [More photos of the car in a separate post]
There were some really clean cars on the lot, as well as some not-so-clean ones. What I've noticed was that most of the good cars were also present at WekFestTX in Austin. There wasn't much to really see, other than some builds that were nice but were lacking in some categories. That did not spoil the fun though, especially when the cars were aplenty. So, my trigger-happy fingers started firing shots at the cars.

I'm really digging this set-up. The color and wheel combo is perfect. |

Somewhat resembles the old VW Scirocco, I think. |

This first-gen Civic station wagon looked fresh, almost showroom-like. |

This 2nd gen MR2 looks hot on BBS LM's. |

One insane E30 M... |

... with an E46 M powerplant. |

Datsun P312. Beautifully restored. More photos of the car will be posted on a separate entry. |

Work Meisters simply look amazing on any car, including this RX-8. |

A rare Subaru Impreza WRX Type R STI |
On hindsight, I would say there were more high-quality cars on the show than I initially thought. For some reason, the environment just did not create a classy feel. I never got the feeling of exclusivity - whatever that means.
On our way home we crossed the Fred Hartman Bridge, which looked modern and grand against the clear sky and bright sun.
Stay tuned for more photos on the RA24 and the P312.
