Hillside Farmacy
Austin, TX
Since my brother and sister in Austin were moving to a new apartment unit, we grabbed the opportunity and made the move-in weekend a sibling outing. The usual suspects were present, except for my sister in Dallas. In place of her, our youngest brother Paolo tagged along. Being the baby of the family, Paolo usually does not get the chance to hang out with the big kids. But now that he is taller and bigger than most of us, and a little bit more responsible too, he gets the chance to come and help with the move, and of course explore Austin with the more responsible adults (ahem).
Dianne found out about Hillside Farmacy on Instagram two days before our get-together. We are glad she did because this place is simply awesome! We have driven by this spot a couple of times before but actually never had enough curiosity to look it up.
The outdoor seating in front of the restaurant is a very nice feature. What's even nicer though is their cozy seating accommodations beside the building. It is a very charming area with ample shade provided by the trees and the restaurant's wall which is covered in creeping fig. There are wall fans, and even a small water fountain attached to the wall that probably helps cool the area a little bit more, especially during hot August days. Despite the searing temperatures around the Austin area, this place remained well ventilated which made Leica pretty contented.
Hillside Farmacy's food and drinks were all on point. We shared our orders and we all agreed that they were very tasty and hearty breakfasts. We got the sunny coast with ham and scrambled eggs, the BLT benny, blueberry pancakes and brown butter, and mac & cheese. We would have probably tasted more from their menu if only we were not planning on having lunch two hours after.
In keeping with the restaurant's name, the mimosa and their grapefruit jalapeƱo margarita were served in Erlenmeyer flask and graduated mason jar, respectively. Hillside Farmacy also serves very rich hot chocolate, and Stumptown coffee with brown sugar cubes on the side.

Hillside Farmacy is one of Austin's gems when it comes to hip and cozy brunch places. The ambience and awesome food complement each other perfectly. Since we had our dogter with us, we were not able to experience the inside dining area, which by the way is a character by itself. We only got a glimpse of the restaurant's old pharmacy-themed walls and counters when we checked in. We'll definitely come back and explore the restaurant's inner halls and menu on our next get-together.
